The Conviction Behind the Consensus: What 42 Managers Actually Agree On

Why I Built Bogen Capital

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how this model works
Bogen Capital is a free, open model portfolio that tracks what 50 of the world's top institutional investors are buying through their public SEC 13F filings. It builds a conviction-scored stock portfolio by aggregating signals from hedge fund managers like Warren Buffett, Bill Ackman, Michael Burry, and Seth Klarman — updated every week.
A 13F is a quarterly report filed with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) by institutional investment managers who oversee more than $100 million in assets. It lists every US equity holding — stock name, CUSIP, and number of shares. All 13F data is public, free, and sourced directly from SEC EDGAR. The main limitation: filings are due up to 45 days after quarter-end, so data can be 45–135 days old.
Each stock gets a conviction score built from three signals: Breadth — how many of the 42 tracked investors hold it; Size — how large a percentage of each investor's portfolio it represents; and Momentum — whether investors are actively buying (adds points) or selling (deducts points). Investors are weighted by track record: Buffett counts double a smaller manager. The score is fully deterministic — no AI or black boxes. Read the full methodology →
The model runs a weekly update every Sunday, checking the latest 13F filings published to SEC EDGAR. When new quarterly disclosures arrive (typically January, April, July, October), the portfolio may change significantly as new buying and selling activity is reflected. The "Updated" date at the top of the page shows when data was last refreshed.
In a backtest covering Q1 2022 through Q4 2025 (16 quarters, 1-quarter holding period), the model returned +73.2% vs the S&P 500's +55.7% — a cumulative alpha of +17.5%. It outperformed in 12 out of 16 quarters (75% win rate). Important caveat: this backtest contains look-ahead bias since 13F data was not available in real-time during the tested periods. Past performance does not predict future results. Run your own backtest →
Steady Compounders tracks value-focused, long-term investors like Buffett (Berkshire), Klarman (Baupost), and Pabrai — favouring quality businesses held for years. Innovation Edge tracks growth and tech investors like Tiger Global, Coatue, and Dragoneer — focusing on disruptive tech and consumer platforms. Bold Strategists tracks macro, activist, and contrarian investors like Ackman (Pershing Square), Druckenmiller, and Burry — willing to take concentrated, unconventional bets. The "All Investors" view combines signals from all 42.
Separate from 13F filings, the model also tracks SEC Form 4 filings — mandatory disclosures when a company's own directors, officers, or major shareholders buy or sell stock. This "insider trading" (legal) data must be filed within 2 business days, making it much faster than quarterly 13F data. When both hedge funds and company insiders are buying the same stock, it's a particularly strong signal. See insider signals →

About This Model

How Bogen Capital works and what it is not

How it works

This model tracks the public 13F filings of 22 of the world's most respected institutional investors — from Warren Buffett and Seth Klarman to Ray Dalio and Carl Icahn. Every quarter, large fund managers must disclose their US equity holdings to the SEC.

Each stock is given a conviction score based on three signals: how many tracked investors hold it (breadth), how large their position is (conviction size), and whether they have been buying or selling recently (momentum).

What it is not

  • Not a licensed investment product or financial service
  • Not real-time — 13F filings are disclosed up to 135 days after quarter-end
  • Not a guarantee of any future return or outcome
  • Not a recommendation to buy or sell any security
  • Not accounting for taxes, fees, liquidity, or individual circumstances

All data is aggregated from publicly available SEC filings.

Data sources

All data is sourced directly from the SEC's free public EDGAR database. No third-party data vendors. Filings are cached locally for 7 days.

The scoring algorithm is fully deterministic — no machine learning or AI is involved. Every score traces back to specific investor filings.
